scarce first trade edition. Elusive novel of 1920s gay life in the drag balls of Harlem and the speakeasies of Greenwich Village. There were supposedly 2500 copies of the trade edition (see lot below), of which some 500 were destroyed by British customs, and US customs returned all copies that arrived in America. Also issued as a signed limited edition of 50 copies.
